Safety tips after a storm

Follow these tips to keep your family and your property safe after experiencing severe weather.

  • ALWAYS follow warnings and signs about flooded roads.
  • Do not drive in flooded areas. It does not take much water for a car to be swept away.
  • Wash your hands with soap and water if you have been in contact with floodwater.
  • Make sure to have an evacuation plan and share it with the whole family
  • Stay away from doors and windows.
  • DO NOT use a wet electrical device.
  • Unplug appliances
  • If the power is out, it is advised to use flashlights, not candles.
  • Wait at least 30 minutes after hearing thunder before leaving your house or shelter
  • Stay away from power lines
  • Follow the CDC’s cleanup tips, or call SERVPRO of Decatur to help- 404-378-9998
