When was the last time you clean your dryer?

7/11/2019 (Permalink)

It is hard to imagine, but dryer vent fires are one of the leading causes of residential fires in the U.S. According to the U.S. Fire Administration 2,900 dryer fires are reported each year and cause $35 million in property damage. 34% of those fires were caused by not cleaning the dryer.

If you are noticing that your clothes are not drying as fast as they used to, that could be a sign that it has been a while since you last cleaned your dryer vents. Your dryer works by removing moist, hot air, so if there is something preventing that air from getting out, your garments will need a few extra minutes to dry.

 Here are some useful tips

  • Make sure your dryer is installed and serviced by a professional.
  • Always use a lint filter, and make sure you clean it before and after you use it.
  • Clean the back of the dryer.
  • Inspect the venting system to ensure that it’s not restricted
